Paul writes cryptography for an elite software company in Silicon Valley. He excels at the job but has been on autopilot for years. One evening a skate crew corners him on Twin Peaks — until three ravens burst out of the dark, scatter the crew, and settle on the shoulders of a woman he’s never met. Days later the woman, Cora, finds him and asks whether he works in tech. Opening his hand, she places in his palm a crushed piece of metal she pried from the skull of a dead raccoon.
